BIRCHLING: Debut adult fantasy, currently seeking representation.

“When Rue is attacked deep in the Border Woods by a once-thought mythical beast, her instincts take over and she barely escapes death by transforming into a tree. Bewildered at the sudden transformation and with the beast’s deadly poison seeping through her blood, she soon finds out she has only weeks to live, and that other attacks have sparked a plague of infection through neighbouring towns. Long an outsider in her own town, she leaves behind the only home and family she’s ever known to search for the mysterious people who abandoned her as an infant in the furious hope they’ll be able — and willing — to cure her, and help her stop the beasts ravaging the land and its people. She and her faithful cat, Pirate, are quickly joined by Ravik, a charming wanderer with closely guarded secrets. The two are inexplicably drawn together as they find themselves in the chaos of a resurging hidden war, and struggle to trust each other as they search for answers to their own secret questions. Travelling through the Ayre, their journey is fraught with dark forests, superstitious townsfolk, woodling folklore come to life and deadly beasts hunting them at every turn. But learning the truth threatens to destroy their fragile connection, reveals a dark and blood-soaked history that casts doubt on those that would call themselves righteous, and could ultimately hurl both their races into extinction.”
